Dear Shakey. I feel your cringe but as far as I remember from the last day in the US you were Ms Professional at speaking out loud … so I don’t believe it was that bad. I’ve done a couple of “talking out louds” too and felt the same way even though – unusually – my flies were done up those times. Hope you are well. PS I am open to the drawing of Emu and Farming parallels.

The net isn’t for sharks, it is a meager attempt to keep out the stingers from the main swimming area. Sorry to hear you were lucky enough to have a close encounter. Most people react with welts and stinging if they hit your skin hard enough. If you brush them lightly, you might only have a small red mark, and you can push them away with your hands with no problem. However, if you jump off the jetty and land on one, the tentacles will most likely stick into the epidermis and really get you squeeling. They aren’t at all life threatening, just an annoying part of life in Busso.

This is likely to be a highly emotive and perhaps controversial question, but I’d like to ask:

Is it more positive for the pig industry to go to the government cap in hand when it’s in turmoil rather than forming a progressive collaboration with the wider industry to stablise pig feed prices for the longer term?

Given the governments dodgy reputation for “supporting” British farming during my lifetime, I can’t see Cazza coming up trumps on this occasion I’m afraid. I imagine she’s likely to pat Stewart Houston on the back and say “You’re the Rider of the Storm” in the same patronising manner that she responded to young farmers at the Oxford Conference in January.
I really hope Stewart manages to come away from this protest with a positive outcome and will watch with interest.

Following Melchie’s comments, it’s obvious that you can’t join the organic gang just by being positive in one blog!
Obviously you have to go the whole hog and become a raving hippy like Maryjo before he’ll accept you into the club.

Now I have a vision of Melchie and Maryjo skipping daintily through their allotments randomly spraying copper and fairy liquid all over the shop, singing Hare, Hare -eeeeeeuhhh!
